SAEON Observational Data

South African Environmental Observation Network (SAEON) is a long-term environmental observation and research facility of the National Research Foundation (NRF). SAEON has a distributed research network covers the major terrestrial and marine ecosystems in South  Africa. SAEON is mandated by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) to preserve and provide access to earth and environmental observation data for South Africa.

Weather data collected from SAEON’s weather stations, listed above, can be accessed below. The near real-time data automatically updates at 5-minute intervals. Additionally, the Loggernet Data Explorer contains historical data for select weather stations within SAEON’s network. The Table View of the data allows for the visualisation and downloading of the data, providing users with the opportunity for further analyses.
